about

No, you aren't reading this wrong: this IS a "greatest hits" album and it IS the 22nd one in a series. Pretentious, yes, but practical, too, as prior to the age of the internet, having SO many albums filled with SO much filler, "poor" or otherwise "commercially non-viable" material on them, it behooved me to cull the "best" of every so many albums in order to have something presentable to share with someone (who wants "just the 'hits'") or so I don't have to fast-forward through the embarrassing awful bits. If "greatest hits" is too grandiose a title or description, given that I technically haven't a single actual hit, and you can't see beyond the tongue-in-cheek manner in which I say it, then think of it more aptly as a "best of" collection... where I am the final subjective arbiter of what makes the final cut. Notice how the first three albums represented only get three or four songs (some edited) while the final album represented, Ω 98, is disproportionally represented with SIX unedited songs. I guess it shows how much I thought of them and the relative improvement at the time.

Now, in the age of the internet, the practicality is similar, but with a purchase option, one might wish to have such a collection, unable to choose from all the other albums, and wanting a bargain not possible were they to pick and choose each song from each album. Okay, so maybe this will only apply to one or two people who will actually buy it, but the deed is done.

Anyway, those with an eye for detail would have missed a gap in the album numbering and wondered where 99 (and, for that matter, 100 - more on that later!) was, and here, finally, is the answer. And honestly, this is perhaps the best volume of "hits" in the series, bing comprised of the first four albums made in the "digital" phase of my production, with the strongest songs, overall.

The only "new" features to the album includes most obviously the front, back and label cover art, featuring photography that plays with light (from green lasers, red flashlights and street lights) on long/over exposures. The front cover photo was made a few years prior to this album while in Seligman, Arizona, while setting up to do some late night dark-sky astronomy. Musically, the songs are the same except for the three tracks marked [edit] which was done in order to fit the songs on the CD. "Cheese on Fire" is only missing the first spoken words "It just keeps getting more and more meaningless" while the other two are missing one or more sections, reducing their duration by over a minute.

The few albums after #100 will have to wait for at least one more album to see themselves represented on the next hits package....
